Anger Management

ANGER MANAGEMENT

This program was developed to help offenders with a history of inappropriate responses to anger to improve skills in the area of anger recognition and management. This program addresses the past and present way the offender handles anger-induced situations and a review is conducted to discuss the anger process, the origins of anger and responses to conflict. Group role-plays are encouraged to assist in developing creative problem solving and communication skills to help the participant deal with difficult emotions.

CVA

This program focuses on helping offenders develop empathy for victims of crime by looking at effects on victims and other issues related to specific areas of criminal activity. Program participants meet for 13-15 weekly one hour sessions. The two-week span allows for additional content coverage as needed.

Domestic Violence Intervention

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INTERVENTION

This program should be recommended for any female offender with a current offense that involves family-based violence. This program is designed to address specifically for the female offender in her criminal behavior. Offenders are afforded the opportunity to recognize and address their own victimization.

Sex Offender

SEX OFFENDER

This program was developed to enhance offender's ability to successfully address their history of sexual offending in a manner that causes no further harm to others. The premise of this program is to use an educational, cognitive-behavioral approach to teach the participants the components of sexual offending and how it affects others. At a minimum, the topics that are covered include: legal definitions of sexual offending, sex offender registration, offending cycles, victim empathy and managing emotions.

BIPPS

Batterer's Intervention Prevention Programs (BIPPS)

The West Virginia Family Protective Services Board licenses the PSIMED BIPPs Program. This program is designed to work with inmates who have a history of domestic violence perpetration. This license is maintained through annual audits conducted by the board and annual reporting of services. This program is a 34-36 week program meeting once a week for two-hour sessions.

Child Evaluation

Commonly requested in cases of child maltreatment or custody cases, Child Evaluations are provided with the most extensive assessment including recommendations to prevent future issues. These evaluations are typically comprised of intellectual, academic, personality and behavior assessments as well as extensive interviews with the child. Collateral interviews and record reviews are also critical components of Child Evaluations.

We determine psychological damage when a child has experienced a life-altering event, been the victim of a crime or experienced medical malpractice. In the event that a child will be testifying in a civil or criminal trial, competency from a psycho-legal standpoint is ascertained. Intellectual capacity and factors such as suggestibility, developmental level, linguistic competency and motivation to be truthful are assessed.

Criminal Evaluation

Receiving referrals from prosecutors, defenders and judges is a strong indicator of the unbiased evaluations provided by PSIMED CORRECTIONS. In many instances, all parties have agreed to a single evaluation by PSIMED CORRECTIONS instead of dual evaluations that represent the perspective of the referral source.

We believe that the most accurate profile of a defendant will be developed by combining the best of clinical and actuarial data. This profile is then integrated with the specific legal question, separate from any judgment on guilt or innocence. Our services include, but are not limited to, the following:

Telemedicine

PSIMED CORRECTIONS, LLC, is experienced in network development and technical support as well as the implementation, enhancement, and expansion of successful correctional telemedicine programs. PSIMED CORRECTIONS, LLC, recognizes the benefits that a telemedicine program can offer to our customers.

PSIMED CORRECTIONS, LLC, has been providing telemedicine services for the state of West Virginia since 2003. This service has enhanced our ability to create a continuum of care providing for more timely and comprehensive mental health programming through the marriage of telemedicine with psychiatry. PSIMED CORRECTIONS, LLC has significantly improved the delivery of services to small rural communities rivaling that of larger urban areas through the use of this tool. This has resulted in a significant increase in the number of inmates being seen via telemedicine and improved the quality of care being offered.

We currently provide mental health services via telemedicine in 31 correctional facilities across West Virginia.

From 1996 2003 the number of psychiatric contacts averaged 1331 annually.

From 2003 2007 the average number of psychiatric contacts increased to 4224 annually.

We have found that the use of telemedicine increases availability of services available in rural areas.

Telemedicine has allowed us to more effectively utilize our psychiatric FTEs creating an economy of scale in small markets.

Our services have been maximized to facilities that have a limited allotment of service hours.

Increased ability to offer emergency and critical care services in a timely manner.

Veterans

VETERANS

Provide readjustment counseling services to eligible veteran's referred by Vet center staff members or professional staff members of VA Psychiatry, Social Work, Psychology or Nursing Services. Readjustment counseling is counseling specifically directed at social, psychological, or behavioral difficulties specifically related to the postwar readjustment to civilian life. Such difficulties may interfere with a veteran's job performance, educational pursuits, family and other interpersonal relations, or overall ability to cope with daily life. Modalities of readjustment counseling include: individual, group, and family counseling; all of which must have as their central purpose the post-war readjustment of Vietnam era and/or post-Vietnam war zone veteran's.
