Self Directed Violence Classification

Understanding and classifying suicidal thoughts and behaviors remains a challenge. In particular, misclassification can impact clinical care and surveillance, which can result in decreased understanding of the issue and appropriate treatment considerations and planning. Utilization of a standard nomenclature, such as the Suicidal Self-Directed Violence Classification System (SDVCS), developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, addresses such an issue. This course will discuss the SDVCS to assist learners in better understanding classification of this matter.
